Fortificazione a forma di torre quadrata probamente di epoca tardo medioevale
Risulta già esistente quando, i Pisani sgombrata parte dei resti dell’antico castrum romano, edificarono la rocca nuova, così chiamata proprio per distinguerla dalla preesistente.
Era posizionata nei pressi dell’inizio dell’attuale via Grande poco distante da dove nascerà il monumento ai 4 mori
Durante lavori in zona sono state a suo tempo ritrovate tracce delle vecchie fondamenta, ma nessun dato ulteriore per una sua configurazione.
Anche da questa rocca pare si sia combattuto per la difesa di Livorno del 1496.
Fortification in the shape of a square tower probably from the late Middle Ages
It already exists when, the Pisans cleared out part of the remains of the ancient Roman castrum, and built the new fortress, so called precisely to distinguish it from the pre-existing one.
It was located near the beginning of the current Via Grande not far from where the monument to the 4 Moors will be born
During works in the area, traces of the old foundations were found at the time, but no further data for its configuration.
Also from this fortress it seems to have fought for the defense of Livorno in 1496.
